Glade (2023)

Materials: Grass, Speakers, Assorted Rocks

A meditative space using natural materials to play a soundscape that evolves as the piece is played. By using only natural materials the piece subverts the viewers expectations of what an instrument can look like. The large speakers that flank the central mound create the expectation for some kind of audio while the rest of the piece leaves the source ambiguous upon a first viewing. In the centre of the mound is a clearing indicating how the mound is used as the grass does not grow there indicating that it is well used and worn. The speakers still echo the grass through the green burlap vents that evoke woven grass.
