Memento Mori

Materials: Cow bones, Acrylic paint, oil paint


       "Memento Mori" references the Norse myth of the cow Auðumla who created humanity from the permafrost. The piece incorporates Norwegian traditional rosemaling creating contrast between the floral patterns and the inherently ugliness and brutality of death. The form evokes the Norse mythological world tree, Yggdrasil.
